Oscarsborg 06;
After reading about it in 'Dagsavisen', we decided to spend a day of our vacation this year at the Oscarsborg fortress. It turned out to be quite an interesting visit, with a bonus cache at the end of the day. As we arrived by boat from Drøbak, these soldiers caught our eye. We would later find out that it was not new regulations as for how young fresh recruits are, but equipment were given out to children joining in the tunnel safari. (I was too old for that, but I did get to explore some of the tunnels still).
The museum was interesting, the view beautiful, The restoration is done very nicely, and it is good to see that they keep it very much as a fort opened up to the public should be. The old cannons were on display, and it was quite impressive to see the measuring equipment they used to figure out the angles and such for shooting.
There's a public marina there now, which was really nice, and small shops where you could get important stuff like ice cream and crab catching equipment.
Before we returned to the mainland, we visited the old watch tower where you could read the old instructions for the poor guys stationed up there. Great view, but extremely warm with only one window to get some air inside.
Down on the ground, we searched for the cache that was to be nearby, and found these scary steps that they probably used before to get up to the watch tower in a hurry from the west side.
In the end we found the cache, and were able to return just in time for the ferry to take us back!

OrkidEvent 06;
'Whoelse' invited us to get some knowledge on the Norwegian Orchids, and so a Wednesday afternoon in June, Enno and I took the train up to a station we'd never heard of, passing other stations we didn't know existed too, (like Tøyen train station). We didn't have to walk far before we found other cachers on their way to the event. We got a sheet with orchid-related questions on them (we had no clue what to answer to any of the questions so we put that quickly in our backpack) and walked and walked until we found the location. We weren't the only ones to have found time for orchids this day, and around the bonfire were some familiar and some unfamiliar faces. After a brief introduction of the area and its history, we all went down to the moor to search for the orchids. There were supposedly 10 different kinds and 4 mixed breeds of orchids in the area, and looking closely we were able to spot a few of them. Not being very good with my camera, it was hard to get good pictures of these small flowers, but this is generally what they looked like.
Back at the bonfire, the sheet of paper I'd so conveniently stuffed in my backpack, now referred to as the quiz, was to be evaluated by someone else to give you some sort of score based on your knowledge of orchids. I did surprisingly bad, I didn't even know what orchid means (not that anyone else there knew either), but, Enno, sneaky bastard, managed to get most points of all, and for that he got a gold medal!(borrowed picture from 'Mostly Moose', hope he doesn't mind!)

A crow, a churchyard and 3 cache(r)s;
3 optimistic cachers decided to go to Bogstadvannet to the west to look for some caches. It didn't start too well, we just couldn't find the cache on the churchyard, and the not so very helpful tip said we should look under a spruce... needless to say, in the middle of the forest, there were plenty of them! We gave up and went to find the other caches we had set out to find. We ended up doing three more, that we found! Enno found a bear next to the lake, and then at last, after several tries and a phonecall to SnakeHand, we also found The Crow, which is a beach along Bogstadvannet. Very cool cache, and a beautiful place.

Exploring Hvasser;
A quick trip to Hvasser, a place I visited a lot as a kid with my parents. This time I brought my parents with me to show them what Geocaching is all about. We found the cache, and as you can see it was more interesting than the view. On the way down there, I saw this slightly edited sign. Was a nice visit to Hvasser, next time I'll get the other cache(s) out there as well!
Finding Highway to hell;

We set off after work with destination Bjørnsjøhelvete! Getting there wasn't easy! But getting there was absolutely worth it! The bridge was so cool! And scary! But we all made it over to the other side and back before we searched for the cache and had our chocolate cookies to be in good shape for the walk home. On the way down, we decided to go for the Pretty Water that looked so beautiful in the dusk.
